Get Stoned & Fly Low

It’s officially Spring Break! Let us put away our backpacks, cancel our previous social engagements, and make way for the more important things like, i don’t know.. SXSW for example? The official film and interactive sessions began yesterday (along with all the unofficial parties) and soon to follow are all 2,000 bands that have been booked and dispersed throughout the many music venues of Austin.

This year will be my first time to attend (and volunteer!)  at South by Southwest. I’ve spent the last week RSVP’ing to day parties, stalking social media websites for updates on unofficial parties, and as of tomorrow I will reside in the Live Music Capital for a weeks time. Between my 3 eight-hour shifts at Plush and the parties I plan on attending, to say I have my hands full would be an understatement. But even soI was able to put together a playlist for this week.

Get Stoned & Fly Low features a combination of electronic, instrumental hip-hop, experimental, and rap music. Having made only one other playlist that contains rap music (see my post Cloud Nine) I figured I was due for another. For this playlist, I focused on newer rap artists i.e. Logic, Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller and fresh electronic/hip-hop beats. i.e. Kaytranada, Cashmere Cat, and Flume. It’s rather upbeat and engaging beat-wise. As as aside, several of the artists featured on this week’s playlist will be at SXSW. Flume with be playing with Emoh as DJ duo What So Not, Kaytranada, Cashmere Cat, Flying Lotus, Paper Diamond, Mac Miller, Smoke DZA, Logic, Kendrick Lamar, Just Blaze, & Kidd Upstairs will all be attending. Make sure to check out Do512 to RSVP for parties and to see when your favorite artists will be playing!
